Green is the prime colour of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.
Pedro Calderon de la Barca

I'd like to make a shout out to Stevie Larwood from The Velvet Epidemic who beated me last week on the idea of the combination brown-green. But indeed she's right, after brown comes green which would make a lovely combination in the least tree-ish way... ;)

If you see anything that's yours, don't be shy to write me (e-mail to be found in the sidebar under Contact).

Love,
Dominique

1. PALOMA FAITH!!! | 2. Been smelling of #5 lately... | 3. YSL Shocking mascara for the win. | 4. On our way to the craft fair in Zwolle (more about that later).

Before we get started with the main thing, I wanted to note that I wasn't a big fan of the YSL Shocking mascara. BUT someone told me to let it dry a little bit, so I did, and I really enjoy it now! That's quite shocking indeed! My Volume de Chanel has been dried out and I want to wait before buying a new one so I can try out some other stuff. Besides the YSL one, I've also got a sample of the Sublime de Chanel and I really want to try out a Dior mascara (because I never ever have tried out one of those). But for now I'm really favoriting the YSL Shocking mascara. Who'd thought??

Last Thursday I went out to see Paloma Faith. Oh yes, you've heard me right. Paloma. Freaking. Faith. And it's safe to say that it was absolutely bloody amazing. Obviously. Initially I'd go with Demi, but she couldn't come, so I went with my dad instead. He was a little bit reluctant because he thought she made jazz music (and he really really doesn't like jazz). And it didn't matter how many times I said that her music isn't jazz, he wouldn't listen.

The concert took place at Paradiso. I'd never been there before, but Demi said it was on the other side of the Melkweg (where Gerard Way performed). So I thought it was literally on the other side of the Melkweg. It wasn't. So me and my dad we're looking around and couldn't find any signs to point us into the right direction. Now the problem of Amsterdam is that almost 99% of the population aren't from Amsterdam. But my dad took the risks and asked this girl if she knew where Paradiso was. Luckily we'd encountered the 1% and she could tell us indeed where Paradiso was. So after her instructions we followed our way (or better said, we'd gone completely wrong and had to walk back all the way we came from and then take a completely different turn *sigh*).

Paradiso is a hard place to find if you've never been there and have no idea how it looks like. We were wondering around to where the girl had pointed us, and to be honest, we were still a bit lost. Then my dad saw this small queue of people infront of a building. Now the question we should ask ourselves is how often are people queuing infront of a building (considering that this isn't England and queuing isn't considered to be a national treasure). So we decided that we had found it. And we had! (after we asked the people in the queue. Just to be sure. They laughed at us).

Before Paloma entered the stage there was Jake Isaac who used his voice in our favour. I'd recommend everyone to go and check him out. His voice was quite pleasant and his music, although all songs sounded a bit the same, is nice to listen to (he himself was also an absolute charm, so maybe that worked in his advance *wink wink*).

Paloma was absolutely blooming amazing. I can't describe the feeling I'm still experiencing. It was almost life changing. My dad said after the show that this is one of the best concerts he's ever been to (and he's seen Michael Jackson and Tina Turner perform, just to give you an idea of how much this means). Also, I was so close!!! I only could be closer if I was rubbing my body against her, which would be a bit inappropiate I guess...

First I was a bit on the side of the stage, but gradually I'd maneuvered myself to the middle, so I'd an absolutely fabulous view of all that went on (and trust me, a lot went on). Luckily this also meant that I couldn't see the masses that was behind me. Normally I'm not that good in a crowd, but when you're at the front the game changes. Also I was a bit afraid that people would like, I don't know, crush me to death or something. But none such thing happened. This may also be because the crowd was on average a bit older (like between 20 and 40 (or 52 in my dad's case. But mentally he's still quite young to fit into my estimate. Although, depends on the day. But that day he was a young living bird, flying around all happy. The day after however... I think we both have aged with +30 years. The worse thing was that the next day we both had to get up early to go to work/school. That was a bit of a tragedy, but I managed myself. Just.)).

Paloma was wearing a leather blouse with ruffles on the front and a baby blue feather skirt with some black feathers mixed into it. It's needless to say that she looked gorgeous and her stage presence is mesmerizing. You can't help than to look. Even if you try really really hard, your eyes still will take a little peek (also what would be the point in going to see someone perform if you keep your eyes shut for the whole time, just put a record on then). The thing with Paloma is that she sings everything with such an ease, if you know what I mean. Her voice just smoothly makes these incredible sounds that can fill up a room and grab the intention. The acoustics were also amazing. With Gerard Way the sound was a too loud for the room he was performing in, while the guys at Paloma nailed it and made it an absolute delight whereby the sound filled the room, but didn't drown it.

I think the best experiences are those that are inspiring in any way. Paloma I'd describe as a ball of wool, whereby you get given the ball of wool and it's up to you what you'll knit of it. That could actually also be a synonym to living your life. You don't just get something and walk around with it for the rest of your life. NO! You are the one who can knit or crochet or weave or even spool that one ball of wool whatever you seem appropiate. And if you don't like what you've created, you can always pull everything out and start from scratch again (is it obvious that I went to a crafts fair today? All my brain can think about at the moment is wool and quilts). Making a point: I LOVE YOU PALOMA!!!

Love,
Dominique

If you love someone, then tell them right now
'Cause your heart won't rest 'till you let it out
Let the words you dream come out of your mouth
If you love someone you gotta make a sound
If you love someone you gotta make a sound
If you love someone
The Veronicas - If You Love Someone

I'm not really one for Valentines Day, however I do like some love-themed items (as to be seen above). There's almost nothing that can excite me more than a nice smell, some lovely makeup, a big cup of tea and a good book. What more do you need? Love isn't only human based! We can love anything when and where we want to! So if you love someone (or something) than tell them right now, 'cause your heart won't rest till you let it out!

On this day, dedicated to love, I'd like to make a serenade to myself. Because in the end there's always me who listens and takes the time to smell nice, to put some makeup on, who gets myself a big cup of tea and a good book. Thanks for that, I appreciate it a lot! But, for real, it's also very important to be not only in love with someone/something, but to be at some state of mind that doesn't think of yourself as that awful (being actually in love with yourself might be an exaggeration, but at least excepting yourself is the way forward, I believe... So there's no shame in thanking yourself from time to time for making that nice cup of tea. Because frankly, who else is going to make it?).

Love,
Dominique

I've never started this blog with any goal, but I think I've reached it. The lovely Maggie Gammons from Futile Ramblings has nominated me for a Liebster Award. Now I personally wasn't aware of any Liebster Award nominating stuff thing. But apparently it's this sort of blogger "ritual" whereby you nominate people and ask questions and they answer them and then they nominate someone else and ask them some more questions and... well, basically here are the rules:

- Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog
- Answer the questions given by the nominator
- Nominate 11 other bloggers who have less than 200 followers and link them
- Notify all the bloggers you nominate
- Create 11 new questions for your nominees to answer.

So yeah, thanks again Maggie for your questions. It would be my honour to answer them. Also, I don't know if you know this about me, but I've got a weird affection toward the number 11. Just a little fact for you there. But let's get these questions answered!

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

1. You have a spaceship that can take you anywhere in the solar system. What planet would you go to first? (Disregarding science for a while.)
Hey, there's nothing on Earth that could save us, when I fell in love with Uranus...

2. What's your third favorite song from your second favorite album?
A little confession here to make, I don't have a favourite song or album or basically I haven't really a favourite anything. I'm such a party pooper! However, to not let a good question go to waste: lets say the album Guilty from Blue with Walk Away. Yes, that'd be a good choice. Either that or Let Them Talk by Hugh Laurie with Battle of Jericho.

3. Unicorns or dinosaurs?
Depends. But I like the different ways the features of an unicorn can be transmitted to anything else (and how you can immediately see that it's part unicorn).

4. Who's your favorite poet?
I don't actually have a favourite poet because [see question 2], but I do really like poets/poems that tell a story or setting within the words- as if you can feel them flying in the air, touching your skin. I think for me poetry isn't as much being specifically known with the oeuvre of one poet, but more a random collection put together with the emotion it can bring me (or the curiosity it withdraws).

5. Scar story. How'd you get your biggest/most gruesome scar?
Well, this isn't the most interesting story (and a bit long too, so you can skip this if you're not interested. I wouldn't blame ya!), but back in 2009 my mum and I -for whatever reason- went out and about on a scooter. When riding on the bicycle path (it was that kind of scooter that's allowed to drive on bicycle paths, so you know, we weren't going that fast) we got to this crossroad whereby the bicycle path gets to be crossed with the road. Now, it's supposed to be that people on the bicycle path may precedence, but a white van (it's always a white van, isn't it?) thought na-ah and crossed the road anyway. But so doing, he hit the back of our scooter whereby my mum got catapulted over the front steer and I, dramatically, went down with the ship (or scooter in this case).

My mum was unconscious, so you know, all attention went to her at that time and I just stood there shaking (I can even remember that when the police came, they thought that I'd driven the scooter -I hadn't because I was too young to drive. But they didn't believe me because I wore red lipstick. And we all of course know that red lipstick is only worn by people who drive scooters- and asked for my ID, but I didn't had my ID on me and I thought that they were going to put me in prison. They didn't, naturally. But I genuinely begged the police officer if he'd please wouldn't send me to prison).

So the ambulance came and the doctor asked if I was alright (uhm, no, I just got hit by a car and my mum's laying there unconscious on the ground) and asked where I'd fallen on. Well, I'd fallen on my side, specifically on my arm, but everything felt alright at the time. So he stretched it a few times and said there was nothing wrong. We all got into the ambulance (Maroon 5 was on the radio, just to give you a little setting) and went to hospital. Arrived at hospital my mum was awake and got tested on all kinds of things (they were worried that she might had inner wounds. She hadn't, luckily). And as they went on, my arm began to hurt more and more. Naturally I didn't say anything about it, until my mum noticed my weird position and asked if they could look at my arm. As you all might've guessed, it was broken. But in quite such a weird way that they had to operate me the next day (which is also a long story, but a short summary: the next day my surgery got delayed because the night before this boy had fallen head to toe, with his bike and all, into a dumpster and broken his arm. There's indeed no question that he was drunk. So when it was finally my time to go, they had to withhold all operating rooms because of an attack on the queen (it was Queen's Day) whereby a lot of people got hurt (and sadly died)).

They'd put this sort of iron into my arm so it could heel straight, but me being me, I got an allergic reaction to it so they had to rush to get it out. When they finally got it out, the wound naturally still excisted and I got an infection whereby my flesh got slowely eaten away. After it finally got away (after the second time. Yes, that's right, I didn't got it once, but twice), I had almost no skin or anything on my elbow left so they had to take some fat from my butt and put it into my arm (where butt's aren't good for, aye?). So yeah, that was quite an unlucky event for me (and my mum naturally. I got away lucky in that aspect if you see all the damage on her body...) which has left me with a gruesome ugly-ass scar.
Whoop whoop.

6. Best meal you've ever cooked?
I'm a VERY bad cook. But, if I may say so myself, my gluten-free muffins are to die for.

7. What body of water is your favorite? (Rivers, oceans, lakes, baths, etc.)
Depends.

8. Describe the scariest teacher you've ever had.
I think all the teacher's I've ever had, had something not right about them.

9.  Would you rather go into space or the bottom of the sea?
Neither.

10. Is there a story behind your name? If so, what is it?
Yes! There's this song from a Belgian band (Clouseau) called Domino and my mother wanted to call me just that. However my dad wasn't that fond of the idea and they turned it into Dominique. I personally quite like the idea of being called Domino, but luckily they didn't (just imagine all those pizza jokes...).

11. What type of art are you most inclined to creating? (writing, drawing, painting, photographing, fashion designing, music-making, etc.)
All kind of art! Life is art! Don't limit yourself, try to experiment and find different ways to express yourself!

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

And that's it! That wasn't to bad, right? Now I think you're not supposed to, like, nominate your nominator, right? That'd just make the circle go round and round and round... that's not the point of it all. I think. So yeah, sorry Maggie, but here are the nominees (in no specific order):

*drumroll*

I nominate...

1. Eenvoud & Simplicity
2. Quite Special
3. Charlie, Les Chroniques
4. The Velvet Epidemic
5. Styleynn
6. Tanith Rowan Designs
7. Under The Spell
8. Dear mr Rabbit
9. Chloe Hearts Owls
10. Original Vintage Queen
11. The Dream Crochet Blog.

And the questions are...

1. How's your day been?
2. What flavour tea do you enjoy most?
3. What's the last beverage you've spilled on yourself?
4. What's the last thing you've googled?
5. Cats or dogs?
6. What's your favourite smell?
7. What kind of food resembles your personality (and why)?
8. What's the background picture on your phone/computer?
9. What's your go-to song when you're sad/happy?
10. Do you've got a daily ritual?
11. Do you've got any plans for tomorrow?

Good luck and have fun! ;)

Love,
Dominique

This Dior palette is a limited edition from the spring collection back in 2013. Spring back then was all inspired by the iconic bow of the house and was transformed into something very feminine, sophisticated and playful. And pink. Don't forget the pink. These three *ahum* four things play obviously an important role in the design of this palette.

There's a dark and light grey, a pink highlighter, a black liner, some gloss for the lips and two applicators. A full house indeed! All has been tucked away in this beautiful decor, which is just absolutely stunning. And I must be honest with y'all, it was the packaging that sealed the deal. Just look at it. Look at it! Isn't it just amazing?!

The colours self are also very nice and feel silky on the skin (oh all of the luxury!). I'm especially in awe of the highlighter. It's very subtle, but it's also entirely face changing, if ya get what I mean. It adds something to the face and you almost can't help yourself than to go crazy with it. Some highlighter on the brow bone, on top of the cheeks, some on the nose and naturally a bit on the cupid's bow and, well everywhere else on your face. *sparkles*

The eyeshadows are quite lucid when you first apply them onto your skin. However, you can build the colour up very easily and when using your fingers you'll find that they're very pigmented. So it might just be the applicater that's a bit -please excuse my language- shit. But besides all that, the colours are easy to use and to incorporate into your "daily routine" (says the girl who only wears browns and greys on her eyes... very easy indeed).

I don't think you can get yourself one of these anymore. *sorry* But look at it! It's so pretty...

Love,
Dominique
