We'll Always Have Summer

by - September 27, 2016

Some nights ago.
Walking with my father.
The sun is setting.
People are leaving.
The sky is red.
The grass is green.
(Stating the obvious is never obscene).

We're walking.
Together.
It's getting cold.
I'm gold.
Lit by the light of the sun.
Filled by the delight of the moon.
Sleep is near.
I can feel it.
I want to be it.

Today is the end.
The end of summer has come.
I'm walking with my dad.
Thinking about nothing.
Hoping it will last.
Stop the thought.
Kill the doubt.

Summer is turning around.
The sky has become purple.
We're almost there.
We're almost home.

Love,
Dominique

  1. What a gentle post-- like the waning sunlight shown in these photos. I love this poem-- it is a very unique way to describe such a simple moment. It is often those simple moments that we remember most clearly, after everything has faded away.

    1. Thank you! You're absolutely right, the gentle moments are mostly the most memorable because of their 'gentleness'. Or at least: they are the memories I want to remember. Especially now, when I'm under a lot of stress and everything seems so everwhelming and big. When only looking at the bigness or shoutiness of the world I feel not only insignificant but in some weird way also non-existent. Watching the world flashing by, like looking out of the train window and not being able to actually see what's outside. So these memories, of being 'in the moment' I guess, makes me re-think about what I'm actually doing (and what I'm doing it for or what I could be doing instead). It gives me a sense that I actually, hopefully, do exist (may it only be in this memory, this bad poem or when looking at the pictures and being able to still sense the sun touching my skin).
