Fashioned by Pluche

As y'all might be aware of, this month I've been keeping myself busy with the 30 Day Photography Challenge. Whoop whoop. Sadly all 30 days are over. *sad face* But I must say that I've handled it quite well. Considering. Yes, I've cheated and didn't always follow the set rules, but who cares? Rules are there to be broken, amiright?? On this fine last day of the month I thought it to be a good idea for some sort of roundup of all that's passed your screens these last couple of days. So without further ado: 30 photos in 30 days...

Dominique

While everyone's been talking about Farrah Fawcett's golden locks, I've been drooling over Jaclyn Smith's face. Her cheekbones are absolutely killing! It's no wonder that she enhances this quality to strung out our eyes. I've set up a quest for myself to find a good highlighter and bronzer. Two products I believe that've enlighten her beautiful bone-structure. This naturally doesn't guarantee that my cheekbones will be as killing as Jaclyn's (that's down to genes I'm afraid), but atleast I can say that I've tried...

Look at that face!

I've never ever used bronzer before. So no better excuse for me than to snoop around many displays, looking at what they've got on offer. I've tested out quite a few and must say that I've stumbled upon two things. 1) Most bronzers aren't bronzers as they are sticky brownish stuff that doesn't in anyway looks complimenting on my face (more like I've eaten some chocolate in a very weird way). 2) I say sticky brownish stuff in the sense of it being orange. Why is almost every bronzer orange? It isn't Kingsday! Anyway... This may sound a bit mad, but I've been looking for a colour similar to brown sugar. Because I've noticed, when scooping some brown sugar into my tea and spilling some onto my hand, that brown sugar might just be the perfect colour combination for me. It's not too dark, but it still has some shine to it.

Eventually I've settled down on a certain price-quality proportion and made my bet. The one that I've chosen to experiment with is the Hema Mineral Bronzing Powder in #1. The product isn't very pigmented, which I for a change really like. Because of my fair skin you've got to be gentle with putting some colour upon it (especially if you haven't had any since the day you were born).

Currently I'm using a blush brush to apply the bronzer to my cheeks. I love how it looks in combination with my YSL Radiant blush. I first apply the bronzer and sort of mix the YSL in, creating this slight gradient of colour and topping it all with a nice highlighter.

The Hema Mineral Bronzing Powder is talc-free and unscented, which for me are two thumbs up. It has a moderate silky finish and is very easy to apply. If you want to go bronzer-crazy, this product isn't probably for you because of the low pigmentation. But for the faint-hearted this is, I think, a good product to begin with...

Dominique

Top + skirt: Made by my mum | Grey/white blouse: Dyanne | Scarf/one-armed cardigan: Made by my mum | Grey tights with studs: Wibra | Shoes: H&M | Hat: H&M | Bag: Local antiquities store | Button: Emilie Autumn via MFashion

Dear, if you change, I’ll never choose again;
Sweet, if you shrink, I’ll never think of love;
Fair, if you fail, I’ll judge all beauty vain;
Wise, if too weak, more wits I’ll never prove.
Dear, sweet, fair, wise,-change, shrink, nor be not weak;
And on my faith, my faith shall never break.

Earth with her flowers shall sooner heaven adorn;
Heaven her bright stars through, earth’s dim globe shall move;
Fire heat shall lose, and frosts of flame be born;
Air, made to shine, as black as hell shall prove:
Earth, heaven, fire, air, the world transformed shall view,
Ere I prove false to faith, or strange to you.

There's nothing like staying at home for real comfort.
Jane Austen

Jumpsuit: H&M | Gilet: Made by my mum | Tights: Hema | Shoes: H&M | Hat: Primark | Necklace: From my grandma | Bracelet: Lucardi

I love staying at home. It's probably one of my favourite things in life. I love my home. Home is where I can turn the heating on when it's cold and open the doors when it's hot. After being out and about, there's nothing like the feeling of coming home. However, this opinion sometimes begs to differ from others or atleast the feeling of home being something like a haven.

The sound of the wind is whispering in your head.
Can you feel it coming back?
Through the warmth, through the cold, keep running till we're there.
We're coming home now, we're coming home now.
Dotan - Home

The videoclip of Home by Dutch artist Dotan starts with three questions. 1) What if home is not a place, 2) what if home is not there to be found and 3) what if home is a soul hunting you.

These questions mainly depends on which definition of home we're talking about. Home for me isn't per se the actual excistense of the walls of my house (although it does help). Home for me is where my loved ones are. Wherever my parents, sister and dog are hanging out, is where I'll feel safe and secure. I've had the luck of being raised in a very tight and loving family and I think that the finding of a home is in some sense the finding of yourself. Finding a place or state of mind where you feel safe, secure and you being able to let go and grow with the elements that you're facing (and being in peace with it or at least being able to bounce off on occasions).

The other day I read somewhere (I can't remember where it's from, sorry) that sometimes home is just someone holding you close when you need it the most. And I think that that's the definition I relate to the most in the sense of home not being something materialistic but a feeling. Home is where the heart is, not where you've layed your bricks (but again, a nice surrounding does help sometimes).

Dominique

1. It's so cold! | There's nothing better in the world than a good cuddle with Jack... | 3. Didn't it snow. | 4. The one and only Gerard Way (who apparently got a hand fetish. But that's alright, he's famous).

I am Jack's raging bile duct.
I am Jack's cold sweat.
I am Jack's inflamed sense of rejection.
I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.
I am Jack's smirking revenge.
I am Jack's broken heart.
Edward Norton (narrator), Fight Club, 1999

I felt like a Jack these past couple of days (not to be confused with Jack the dog, naturally. I wish I felt like Jack (the dog). If only...). Exams are tough, man! Especially if they ask the wrong questions. I know the answers, believe me I do, but those questions are just all wrong!

Luckily I could set my mind free this Saturday from all the work and weather. Although not the weather. It's been freezingly cold and I'm so tired of it! In my head January means not only the beginning of a new year, but also the beginning of spring and sheeps and, ya know, not freezingly cold foggy weather with snow and rain and all that kind of jazz. I'm simply not having it! BUT, putting that all aside, I went to see Gerard Way in the Melkweg (Amsterdam) with my regular partner in crime Demi from Quite Special. I mean, no better way to do it, amiright??! Unfortunately the circus is yet to begin and the coming few months will be challenging. But in about two weeks I'm off to smile at Paloma's Faith face, so not all has been lost. ;)

ALSO I've finally watched the first episode of Grantchester and am totally in love...

Dominique

Watch here.

First video of the year! My initial plan was actually to produce something every week... as it may be obvious, I've failed miserably. Oh well, what to do about it? Hope you enjoy the video nonetheless (hopefully more than less, naturally).

Dominique

I love those kind of products that already work miracles after the first application, and doesn't let you down after using it for a longer period. And this is one of them bad boys.

I've got quite a few expensive bodylotions (two to be exact, which is basically the same right?) which I use solidly on my upper body. Because basically that's where I can smell it/enjoy it the most. Which incidently leaves my legs in a terrible state. And there is where the Nivea Soft Hydrating Cream steps in. Because I can't smell my legs and, well, they mostly just hang loose on my body, covered in clothes, I've chosen for a more inexpensive bodylotion that'll deal with that.

I've got quite dry and very sensitive skin, so I can't just smear anything anywhere. I've found that Nivea is mostly a good goer when it comes to hydrating and carefully handling my limbs. This specific cream is suitable for your whole body, face and hands. A real all in one product!

The texture of the product is very soft (as the name indeed suggests) and is easy to handle. It isn't very sticky and you'll be able to move around within seconds. It's very hydrating (as the name indeed also suggests) and it sinks into the skin very quickly. You don't need much to cover a lot of ground and it has a very subtle -almost iconic to Nivea- smell to it. My skin immediately looked and felt a lot better after the first application, and after using it subsequently for a longer period of time, I definitely noticed a big difference.

Nivea is a brand you mostly can rely on, and thus so is this product. It's parabens free, multifunctional and just a nice little something (or actually a big something, look at that jar!) you can use daily without feeling guilty. Or breaking the bank, which is also nice for a change. ;)

Love,
Dominique

Coat: Made by my mum | Strapless dress: H&M | Jumper: InWear | Knee-high socks: H&M | Shoes: H&M | Yellow pearl necklace: From my grandma

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
