Those who claim that they've got 'nothing to wear', often have enough to wear but are just out of inspiration (guilty as charged!). Inspiration is a tough little fella who can break or make a day. However, nothing to despair, I've got you covered! On those challenging days just remember all of the beautiful things this world has created for you (so you don't have to)! There are so many, it'll make you dizzy. But not to worry (again)! Below you'll find just a slimmer of a list of things I always look at when in trouble to get you going (because too much is also de-stimulating). Just a glance and I'm fixed for the rest of the year!

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The 80's Elite
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

I believe that the 1980's have been a time where the previous centuries of fashion history were clashed together. Creating an eclectic look that can tell you stories from the 80's to the 18th century. A bit of theatre, a sprinkle of drama, the 80's elite knew very well what they were doing. Or at least, their stylists knew very well what they were doing.

By taking things from the past, you can perfectly comment on the present and give a look into the glass ball for the future. My main queens of the ball are naturally Madonna and Debbie Harry. But also the lesser known and forgotten may attend the party.

Madonna, Madonna, where would the world be without Madonna? She hardly needs an introduction, just the name will do. But for the sake of it: Madonna is naturally the Queen of Pop, born in Baby City (Michigan) and named after her mother. She sings, she dances, she writes, she business, she changes and she Madonna's. Looking absolutely stunning just doing so. To be honest, I'm not very familiar with her later works (my inside knowledge will end around the 2000-period). However, the 80's Madonna I'm very fond of. From Material Girl to Like A Virgin, I've thoroughly examined the ways this Queen has coordinated her fabulous outfits...

Debbie Harry, better known as these cheekbones will kill you, is naturally the leadsinger of Blondie. A lovely lady with a particular air around herself that I certainly wish one day to breathe in. She's the definition of effortlessly cool. She doesn't need anything or anyone than herself. And some awesome clothing option to roam through. A tee hasn't been worn that well by anyone since madame Harry has shown her face around the scene. So keep hanging on the telephone and take direct inspiration from this mastermind.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
British Detectives
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

I mean, imagine how some unfortunate Master Criminal would feel, on coming down to do a murder at the old Grange, if he found that not only was Sherlock Holmes putting in the weekend there, but Hercule Poirot, as well.
P.G. Wodehouse (The Code of the Woosters)

Where there's a murder, there's... well... a dead body. But also some lovely dressed detectives and suspects. The big question is naturally whodunit? Well, this theory hasn't led me down yet: If they've got style, they've done something vile. However, we're all willing to forgive them due to those killer -excuse me- outfits. So just turn on the tv, look at your screen and take notes! Who knows, you might just solve the case...

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Art
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

My definition of art doesn't just include paintings and statues. Art is something that can be attached to many forms of creating. Clothes can be art. So, to combine the two: clothes that are worn by the people in paintings. Sometimes it's just mesmerizing how the artist has reflected all the details of a clothing item to reflect the story. A good example of this is In The Conservatory by Edouard Manet. A double portrait of Jules Guillement and his wife. The clothes tell the story here. The glove that's been taken of, but the hands are not touching. The umbrella fiercely pointing at Mr. Guillement, but again not yet touching. What shall it mean? Besides naturally the fact that Mrs. Guillement has an impeccable taste.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Anything Green
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

I don't know why, but if it's green, it's inspiring. To me anyway. From green grass and big trees to Kermit the frog and his companions. So long it's green we're good. As Debbie seems to agree with me...

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The Usual Suspects
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

The greatest advantage of living in the 21st century is naturally Social Media. So get your butt over to Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest and all of the other apps under your thumb.

A few of my favourites on Tumblr and Instagram:

Tumblr
Fashion in History
Des Histoires de Mode
Hell Yeah 1920s
Still Life Quick Heart
Chung-Alexa

Instagram
Local Milk
Nitch
Kat von D
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Adored Vintage

P.s. Don't forget, literally anything can spark of that sprinkle! Even a spoon. With the right filter.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

I hope this list will help you next time when you're with your hands in your hair, acompanied by piles of clothes on the ground (although, admittedly, that's just my room's decor. Don't judge).

Love,
Dominique

A short Q&A:
Q: Is this post ACTUALLY going to be about scissors?
A: Yes. Yes it is.
Q: Why??
A: Because they're bloody awesome.

Scissors are most ingenious, aren't they? Just the way they've been made, mesmerizing! Yes, it doesn't take much to impress me. But just look at the shape of a good ol' pair, who'd come up with that?

Well, the Egyptians. That's right, besides being the founders of lipstick and eyeliner (that Cleopatra was a busy bee), the Egyptians are also the brain behind the scissors. About 1500 B.C. to be exact became the scissor part of life.

Naturally, as always, Europe was behind on the whole scissor-craze in Egypt. It took the Romans a mere 1000 years to come up with such an invention. Those days the scissor was used as a tool for cutting fabric and leather (something it still can do nowadays whoop whoop). But the funny thing is, the Romans' scissors didn't had a hinge joint -as we know it- but a "bendy bit at the end". Right. The shape of the scissor -as we know it- doesn't come kicking in until the Middle Ages. Monks, I assume.

The pretty pair you've been looking at are my new scissors from House Doctor via Twee21. They're all handmade from black iron with brown leather wrapped around the handles. Perfect to tackle any crochet/knitting adventure!

Dominique

It's Sunday. I don't move on Sundays.
Chandler Bing
(played by Matthew Perry)

This week I've been ill. And it seems that everyone else has been also. Anyway my mum and I were/are tremendously ill. It's the bloody weather again to blame. WEATHER. Ugh. Anyway, I haven't moved my body since last Wednesday. Not much of a story, I know.

Also APPARENTLY I'm not nice when I'm ill. Who'd thought? Normally I'm miss Sunshine herself (bit of an exaggeration), but when fallen ill I can be quite... Well... challenging, I'd say.

But all in all this has given me the opportunity to 'test out' my new pj bottoms (bought in the H&M sale). And we all know how much I love my pj's! So finally some light at the end of the tunnel (although I wasn't aware that we were in a tunnel beforehand). A great tip to take with you into your grave: always buy your pj bottoms a size bigger than needed. Some extra room at night is always appreciated by the body. Especially when ill. Or hot. (we soon will be facing tropical weather here. TROPICAL! It's not the Bahamas we're talking about!).

Anyway, I'm planning to go and create my own fancy pj collection. A hybrid between a Hollywood Diva and a Stay at Home Mum in the last century. Exciting indeed!

Dominique

I checked the clock, it was time for afternoon tea. Perfect!

As most of you probably know, I love myself a good cup of tea. I can't get enough of the stuff! So my sister and I thought it to be a marvelous good idea to go to Theetuin Eemnes (tea garden Eemnes) for our parents wedding anniversary. On Father's Day. Why not?

We went for a High Tea. Apparently the Dutch version is a misconception (as most Dutch things are), whereby high tea will be referred to in England/Scotland/Ireland as meat tea and our high tea is rather more like afternoon tea. However, we don't play by the rules and can have it WHENEVER we fancy it and call it WHATEVER we like to call it (the freedom!!). So we went in early around ten/ eleven-ish to our HIGH TEA.

So high tea, or afternoon tea if you like, has been 'created' around 1840 due to the tummy rumbling of Anna Russell (Duchess of Bedford). At about four o'clock Anna got hungry and didn't wanted to wait for diner. So her servants (because don't you worry Anna certainly wouldn't make some food for herself) made a light meal for her with tea (important. The tea is very important. Don't forget the tea!). Naturally most people fancy something to snack around four, as I personally certainly do, and the whole thing has never stopped since. Certainly not in the English Kingdom. But we 'foreigners' also know our ways around, don't you worry.

Now Theetuin Eemnes do all kinds of allergen-proof high teas. They've got gluten free, lactose free, peanut free, sugar free etc etc. So for those on the hunt for a 'special' high tea in the Netherlands, certainly go and check them out. Unfortunately they couldn't do some of their magic for me, but I was allowed to bring my own stuff AND I got my tea for free! Thanks guys, u da best!!

The whole place has been lovely decorated and besides the tea-business, they've also got a place where you can merry and their own antiquities shop attached. Oh, before I forget, they've also got some chickens and roosters running around. And children. Not their children, but children from people who brought their children to a high tea. They weren't that keen on it, apparently (but I've seen worst).

We had a tea-rriffic day out, although the weather was absolutely horrid. But that possibly adds to the Britishness of the whole thing, right? Although, the weather isn't very different between here and there. Their rain becomes our rain... Sadly.

Also, funny thing to add, when we came home my mother said that she craved for a cup of tea. WE JUST FINISHED A HIGH BLOODY TEA!! Oh well...

Love,
Dominique

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.

How do you like your eggs in the morning?

Sometimes I film one or two things and they never seem to fit anywhere. So here I thought to make you a scrambled egg of a video [click here to go to the video], with all kinds of footage from these past couple of days... An EGG-citing summary! EGG-tastic! EGG!

The video includes this outfit. This is a real -I don't know what the weather is going to be like, but I'm kinda cold but also kinda hot- look. We seem to be in this forever ongoing cycle, whereby at the beginning of the week it's wet and moist and just horrible. And at the end of the week it's bloody hot and wet and moist and horrible. It's safe to say that I'm not a fan of it. It's that kind of weather whereby it actually won't matter what you'll wear, because within the day it can change so drastically. Ya know, either be cold and wet or hot and wet but not both at the same time. Is that too much to ask??

Dominique
